Tansel Korkmaz received her bachelor's degree in architecture from METU in 1986, and she received her master's and doctorate degrees from the same institution. She worked as a research assistant at METU from 1987 to 1992 and as a lecturer from 1993 to 2001. She was a member of the founding team of the Bilgi Architecture graduate program.As the vice-dean of the Faculty of Architecture she was in charge of developing the curriculum and forming the faculty staff in 2009. She is Dean of Istanbul Kent University's Art Design Faculty since 2021.

She lectures on modern architecture and post-history / theory / criticism, and she led workshops on the preservation of urban heritage and urban rehabilitation, as well as the rehabilitation of Istanbul's ecological corridors connecting the Black Sea to the Marmara. Also she has numerous articles on these topics.
