"Made in Izmir: IzmirSMD in its 20th Year" Book Published

Celebrating the foundation of 20th anniversary of the Association of Architects in Private Practice of İzmir, a book documenting the contributions of the association's members is released.

Works in the field of architecture, which is a multi-faceted production area, are brought together around themes of “building stories” through different narratives. The selection published includes 40 buildings presented to readers within the frameworks of stories of “light”, “imprint”, “texture”, “rehabilitation”, and “negotiation.” The book is edited by Müge Cengizkan and Ali Cengizkan and designed by Dilara Sezgin.

The book records the significant contributions of the architect-authors who are members of İzmirSMD, not only to İzmir and the Aegean region but also to Turkey as a whole. The Editorial Board aimed to collect and present “building stories” in a multi-layered field like architecture, utilizing narratives in literary resources, and to provide a fresh learning experience in the field of architecture through this selection. The book thus worthy of İzmir, a city that has been cosmopolitan through complex international relationships for at least the last four hundred years, was published in both Turkish and English under the same cover. The title, which encompasses local and international associations through the metropolis, thus emerged: Made in İzmir / İzmir Yapımı.
